About DOrunning CIC

Founded in 2019, DOrunning CIC's aim is to increase running participation for all. With a strong focus on mental health and addressing wider community issues we intend to promote inclusive and easily accessible running groups breaking down perceived barriers to activity.

With a strong focus on the positive mental health impact of regular exercise and breaking down the activity boundaries that exist in communities with wider social issues we strive to maintain a welcoming and friendly environment for all our members.

We believe by creating this type of environment, we can help individuals achieve their best potential and enjoy the benefits of exercise. Alongside three weekly social running groups, events, talks and social gatherings are arranged to create a fully inclusive group, full of support and encouragement.

The aim of DOrunning CIC is to create an organisation that:
  • encourages and supports the people of Nottingham to be more active
  • offers free and incentivised participation to all
  • highlights the many positive impacts of physical exercise, particularly mental health and well being
  • breaks down negative perception of physical exercise, in communities with wider social issues
  • tackles mental health issues head on by openly discussing and letting people know "it's ok not be ok"
  • creates an environment for all to find comfortable and to develop at their own pace
  • works with and supports local charities and organisations, both voluntarily and financial, to give something back to the local community
  • maintains a positive approach to meeting new people and making new friends

Des took up running in 2015 hoping to lose weight and quickly realised running gives so much more than initially expected – including improved self-confidence, a greater sense of achievement and the opportunity to make new friends.

Des's commitment led to him being nominated for various local community awards including being a finalist in the Nottingham Post Heroes awards. Des has been selected by Goldline Events to be a Community Ambassador for the Robin Hood Half Marathon
